New Jaguar Previews XKR-S Before Geneva

Jaguar’s got a treat for us, coming to the Geneva show. It’s low, mean, blue, and has a lot of power. In the next episode of “Making Aston Martin’s look overpriced and slow,” Jaguar is bestowing the XKR-S upon us.

It slots above the already ridiculous XKR in Jaguar’s lineup as the performance star of the model line. Under the hood, the big cat gets upgraded from a hardly sufficient 510 horsepower and 462lb-ft of torque, up to a more robust 550bhp and 502lb-ft of torque – which makes this officially the most powerful road-going Jaguar ever made. That honor was previously held by the XJ220 supercar of the early ninties, with it’s TWR-fettled twin-turbo V6 that pushed out 542 horsepower and 472lb-ft of torque.

Jaguar doesn’t say what’s been done to increase the power, but with a direct-injected, supercharged V8 there’s always going to be more on the table. A good guess would be an ECU retune and intake/exhaust work, but full details will be released at the car’s debut at Geneva in March. They do say the XKR-S will do 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 186mph, which puts it up there with the Mercedes CL63 AMG, Aston Martin DB9, and Maserati GranTurismo S as far as performance goes.

The XKR-S will also get revised suspension tuning as well as aerodynamic addendum, but that’s about all Jaguar is saying at this point. The whole XKR-S is part of a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the E-Type, which has got to be the sexiest 50-year old out there these days. Stay tuned for more pictures and information as they roll in!

Jaguar Working on XJ Coupe

Jaguar has met sales success with the new XJ luxury sedan. The car builds off of the brand’s earlier efforts with the mid-size XF and finally abandons the retro-styling that was weighing the brand down.

Now under the ownership of Tata Group, Jaguar is clearly being taken upmarket. As such new models must be introduced. A new sportscar is almost certainly in the works and a crossover is being considered. But what about an XJC coupe version of the XJ?

Renderings of such a car have floated around before, and the result looks brilliant. The car’s beautiful styling would be applied to a two-door coupe with a very rakish roofline.

The move makes sense from a business perspective, adding a halo model that would increase profits and sales on the XJ platform. The car would go head-to-head with the Mercedes-Benz CL Coupe, but would be “more emotional.”

Sources tell Automobile Magazine that the car would be a “pillarless four-seater (that) features a glass roof and its own sheet metal.” Jaguar’s uniquely British interior and the car’s stunning pillarless proportions could make the car a Jaguar take on the Bentley Continental GT. We can’t wait to hear more about this.

New Cool Jaguar Paint Job

Take a look at this cool classic Jaguar E-Type with a paint job of a jaguar. This paint job was applied way back in 1961 when the first E-Types arrived at American Jaguar dealerships. One such dealer thought it would be a good idea to tart up one of his stock and park it in the showroom as a promotional gimmick. It appears this car has been mildly restored over the years but its wild, animalistic “skin” still looks fresh. Cool eh!

2010 Jaguar Sport Cars XKR GT2

GT racing legend Paul Gentilozzi is taking a break from a gruelling development programme to feature the XKR in the largest dedicated trade motorsport exhibition in Europe. The racecar will be on display at the Jaguar sport cars stand alongside a production model XKR, XFR, and the fastest Jaguar ever – the Bonneville XFR prototype, which Paul drove to 225.675 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2008.
Rocketsports Racing officially announced a GT2 program for the American Le Mans Series that will see the East Lansing, Michigan-based team reunite with the Jaguar sport cars brand by entering a Jaguar XKR for a partial season in 2009 with a full-season championship effort in 2010. Jaguar asked the Michigan-based RSR team to help create a race car to compete in GT2 racing in 2010. The Jaguar sport cars engineering and design teams, based in Coventry, have jointly developed the car from a standard road-going XKR with the RSR team. It is the first and only chance for the public to see the stunning new 2010 Jaguar Sport Cars XKR GT2 in the metal before it heads back to the US to compete in the entire 2010 American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in North America.
“It has been difficult to be out of competitive racing for nearly a year,” said RSR team owner Paul Gentilozzi. “We are most fortunate to be able to return to what we know, winning sportscar championships."
RSR will be entering the ALMS with Jaguar as a technical and marketing partner. Jaguar has provided vital engineering, information and support to assist the team in the homologation and construction process. Construction of the Jaguar XKR is near completion at the RSR facility. A parallel engine development process is also underway for the new AJ-133 direct injected 5-liter normally aspirated engine. The company’s plan is to begin testing and development in June and enter the ALMS series mid-summer. RSR will be building at least three XKR’s this year and will have cars available for customer use in 2010.
The Jaguar sport cars XKR GT2 racer competing at Le Mans is being run by JaguarRSR, and shares many of the basic components and technologies with the road-going XKR. Jointly developed by Jaguar's engineering and design groups and the RSR team, the racer features the road car's lightweight aluminium body structure and a tuned version of its 5.0-litre supercharged AJ133 V8 engine developing in excess of 500 horsepower.
2010 Jaguar Sport Cars XKR GT2
After taking centre stage at the car show, the JaguarRSR XKR GT will visit 'home' by making stops at Jaguar headquarter sites in Whitley and Castle Bromwich in the UK. 'It will be incredibly exciting to take the JaguarRSR XKR GT back to the team at Jaguar who worked so hard to make this dream a reality,' added Gentilozzi. 'A picture may be worth a thousand words, but seeing this car in person is priceless.'
The competition car uses the standard Jaguar XKR lightweight aluminium monocoque together with additional steel reinforcements and safety structure developed by RSR. The 5.0-litre V-8 engine boasts 550 horsepower at 7000 rpm and a maximum speed of 180mph.
The JaguarRSR XKR GT made its racing debut during the Petit Le Mans event at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia, in September 2009. The car took its first green flag in the American Le Mans Series season finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in October and is set for a full-season championship effort in 2010. Jaguar has huge experience in the 24H Le Man races, so we expect them to perform well and bring good satisfaction of the million fans.

2010 Jaguar Sports Cars XKR 75

The 2010 Jaguar Sport Car XKR 75 will provide owners with exclusivity, excitement and a hint of Jaguar’s great heritage its debut at the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 2. Jaguar Land Rover CEO, Dr Ralf Speth, initiated the challenge to the Jaguar engineering team to construct an XKR to celebrate Jaguar's 75th anniversary, which would deliver a combination of enhanced performance, superb chassis and steering control and grip levels to inspire the driving enthusiast to explore the true potential of the XKR's capabilities.
2010 Jaguar Sports Cars XKR 75
“The Jaguar Sport Car XKR 75 will provide owners with an exclusive, fun and a bit of the Jaguar heritage. This is a way to celebrate the power of the XK sports trademark name Jaguars 75 years,” said Mike O'Driscoll, managing director, Jaguar Cars.
Jaguar engineers increased the power and torque of the acclaimed 5.0-litre supercharged engine to 530PS and 655Nm respectively for the Jaguar Sport Car XKR 75, to deliver truly outstanding performance. While the limited edition model’s top speed is electronically limited to 174mph (280km/h), the Jaguar Sport Car XKR 75's 0-60mph (100km/h) acceleration time is reduced from 4.6 to 4.4 seconds compared to the standard 510 PS XKR. "We conceived the XR 75 as a sports car with a duality of character that makes it perfectly suited to driving across Europe to the Nurburgring, completing some very fast laps, and then driving home again, added Mike Cross, Chief Engineer Vehicle Integrity.
The Jaguar Sport Car XKR 75 features revised suspension and handling for increased precision and agility in addition to the performance enhancements. To ensure the XKR 75 remains stable at high speeds, a revised aerodynamic body pack with a front splitter, side sills extensions, a rear diffuser and larger rear spoiler provide increased balance and a reduction in lift. The XKR's computerised Active Differential Control also adjusts to reduce steering sensitivity at very high speeds, further improving stability and driver control.
Production of the Jaguar sports car XKR 75 is limited to just 75 vehicles, which will be available to order from July 2010 in the UK priced from £85,500 OTR. Customer deliveries will commence during October 2010.

New Car 2010 Jaguar XFR | Auto Design

It's no secret that we like the Jaguar XF at Automobile Magazine. The keys to our XF Supercharged Four-Seasons test car are rarely sitting around and we keep piling on the miles. We even named the newest Jaguar sedan a 2009 All-Star. But, like you, we've seen the spy photos and knew the English brand had something hotter coming. That hotter something is the XFR, released here at the Detroit show.

New Car 2010 Jaguar XFRThe big news for the XFR is its engine. While the top-spec 2009 XF made due with the older, 4.2-liter supercharged V-8 with 420 hp, the new 2010 XFR gets a new 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 with a BMW M5-conquering 510 hp.

New Car 2010 Jaguar XFR
Maybe even more telling is the torque. The blown Jaguar engine tops the BMW's same size (though normally-aspirated) V-10 by 78 lb-ft with 461 lb-ft at a rather low 2500 rpm. The XFR's engine even comes close to the larger, 6.2-liter V-8 in the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG in the torque department.

New Car 2010 Jaguar XFRThrough the fitment of direct-injection and other fuel-saving technologies, the new AJ-V8 Gen III matches the old XF Supercharged model in fuel economy with an EPA rating of 15 city, 23 hwy. As long as we're in the comparing mood, it's interesting that the M5 is rated at a rather poor 11 city/17 highway and the E63 at 13 city/20 highway. Not that fuel economy is a real priority for buyers in this market.

New Car 2010 Jaguar XFRWhat is important to buyers in this segment is overall performance. Luckily, Jaguar didn't just drop in a new engine and call it quits. The paddle-shift ZF six-speed automatic transmission is beefed up internally to handle the extra grunt. Larger brakes and a quicker steering rack are used as well. More interestingly, the chassis receives some electronic tweaks. First, an active dampening system called Adaptive Dynamics is fitted.

New Car 2010 Jaguar XFRThis is a more advanced setup compared to simple, two-step dampers in the outgoing XF Supercharged. The second bit of chassis trickery is even more interesting. It's called Active Differential Control (ADC) and is an electronically controlled limited-slip rear end. It utilizes an electric motor with a multi-plate clutch and can actively transmit torque to the wheel with the most grip.

We've got our whole staff wandering the floor at Cobo Hall bringing back live photos and more information about all the new debuts from Detroit.
